Hours of operation:
The kayaks and paddle boards are reserved on a first come first serve basis.
Use of resort kayaks and paddleboards are complimentary during your stay. Life vests & paddles are included as well.
Additional Information:
- For your safety, we reserve the right to cancel or change a trip because of weather conditions.
- Depending on the tides, the trip could be upstream or downstream.
- Fishing is permitted, although a permit is required.
- Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, food, and don’t forget a camera
- Please do not bring the following on the kayaks with you: No pets, glass, Styrofoam, or firearms.
Terra Ceia Bay Preserve
Located in the southern portion of Tampa Bay, the 2,000 acre Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve is characterized by the inlets and embayments of a drowned shoreline. The preserve has open water, several inlet bays, creeks and rivers that are all influenced by the ebb and flow of tides. The inlet bays include Bishop Harbor, Miguel Bay and Terra Ceia Bay. Adjacent to Bishop Harbor, there are two additional inlets: Williams Bayou and Clambar Bay. Miguel Bay is formed from the mainland and Rattlesnake Key.
Fisherman’s Cove Resort is located on the largest inlet, Terra Ceia Bay, which is bisected by the US 19 bridge. The open water of the aquatic preserve is bisected by the Sunshine Skyway bridge to the south. Terra Ceia River/Frog Creek and McMullen Creek provide freshwater to the system which accounts for the large diversity of fish that can be caught.
The tidally influenced portions of these various bodies of water are all part of the of the aquatic preserve which is rigorously protected. As with most preserves, restoration goals and efforts are a continuous process. While you paddle and explore inside the preserve, you are seeing the same natural Florida environment as our first pioneers witnessed well over 450 years ago. (Learn more about Desoto’s landing.)
