The Power of Pause!
The miraculous way a computer bounces back after a reboot is a great analogy for why we all need to “power down” sometimes. For people, a break or vacation is just as refreshing and restorative as a restart is for a computer. There are plenty of reasons why powering down works so well in both humans and machines, but luckily, we don’t need to fully understand them. IT WORKS, and that’s the most important thing to know!!

The Power of Rebooting
It’s Magical!
When our computers start misbehaving, we’ve all witnessed the magic of a pause. A quick reboot, powering down, waiting for a moment, and restarting, can work wonders, fixing a variety of technical glitches in no time.
Restarting your computer clears the current state of the software and hardware, essentially resetting the system. Not only does it often resolve your main issue, but it also brings a range of other benefits. A reboot can fix software glitches, free up memory, resolve temporary slowdowns, reconnect networks, and reset hardware components, all of which improve system stability and security. In short, rebooting is an easy and effective way to restore your computer’s performance using its built-in mechanisms. A return of function coupled with the relief your computer isn’t totally FRIED, can feel downright magical sometimes.
People and Computers
Both can benefit from a break!!
Just like computers, people benefit from the power of a pause. Taking a vacation can be an amazing way to recharge. Stepping away from daily routines and responsibilities help clear the mind and reset both mentally (software) and physically (hardware). A break from constant input, “brain overload,” and work demands allows us to power down and return feeling calmer and more energized. With a refreshed mind, our focus, creativity, and overall well-being can naturally return to their best levels.
GO, GO, GO!
(It's a fantasy)
In a world where humans and computers are pushed to work harder, move faster, and achieve more, the concept of pausing can seem almost revolutionary. Breaks are often viewed as indulgent luxuries, especially when relentless ambition and hustle are celebrated as signs of success. The reality is, though, that constant peak productivity is unrealistic for both people and machines. The longer either goes without a break or an update, the more they both show clear signs of needing one.
Changing your Mindset
So, what if we redefined rest as essential, not just for surviving but for thriving? Pausing isn’t a betrayal of ambition; it’s an act of self-preservation. Just like rebooting a computer restores function, stepping away, whether through daily breaks or extended vacations, allows us to reconnect with our natural rhythm, ensuring that we continue to operate at peak efficiency. It’s smart and it’s proven!
Best All Around Reboot Plan
Nature, in particular, offers an unparalleled opportunity to disconnect from constant noise and truly reset. Immersing ourselves in outdoor spaces doesn’t just reduce stress, it revitalizes both mind and body, fostering clarity and creativity.
There’s an infinite amount of research and studies on the internet about the benefits of rebooting/rejuvenating through nature. We’ve boiled it down to a handful of bullet points as to why nature offers a GREAT powering down option while taking a daily break or embarking on a vacation.
- Digital Detox Happens Naturally
Nature encourages disconnection from screens and constant notifications. Even when you still have access to WIFI or cellular, in the wide expanse of nature, you’re more likely to unplug from your devices and redirect your attention to the open space that surrounds you. While reducing cognitive overload, improving attention span, and reestablishing mindfulness. - Restores Mental Clarity Through Sensory Simplicity
Unlike cities or resorts packed with noise, lights, and crowds, natural environments offer a calming sensory experience – rustling leaves, flowing water, birdsong. This simplicity helps quiet internal chatter and resets overstimulated minds. - Promotes Physical Movement That Heals: Hiking, swimming, walking – these organic forms of exercise in nature reduce stress hormones like cortisol and release endorphins. The physical activity, paired with natural surroundings, elevates mood and fosters a sense of renewal.
- Reawakens Awe and Perspective:
Mountains, forests, stars – nature humbles and inspires. This feeling of awe has been shown to expand our sense of time and increase generosity, while also reducing self-centered thinking and anxiety. - Biophilia: We’re Wired for the Wild:
The biophilia hypothesis suggests humans have an innate connection to nature. Being in natural settings fulfills a deep evolutionary need, which modern life often suppresses — reconnecting us with our instincts, creativity, and calm.

Fun Facts
Did you know?
- Scientific studies have shown that exposure to nature strengthens your body’s immunological defense mechanisms. In particular, it increases the production of cancer killing T Cells. Researchers theorize that natural environments such as a forest expose us to a combination of organic compounds, terpenes, essential oils, charged ions, pollen, fungi and bacteria.
- Scientific research finds an immediate improvement of a person’s immune system after a walk in the woods.
Now this one is a BIG Surprise!
- People receive mental and physical health benefits by JUST LOOKING at nature in photographs or video. *
Nature is In
Various research articles have documented the healing impact of being in nature, highlighting it as an effective means of reducing one’s level of stress and enhancing their mood starting at a biochemical level.
Recent research published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health suggests that walking as little as 15 minutes in a forest can improve one’s mood and relieve stress and anxiety. The study had 60 participants who were divided into two groups — one that walked in a city environment and the other in a forest environment.
Stanford University conducted a similar research project but took it a step higher scientifically. For both groups they conducted brain scans before and after a person’s walk. There were clear advantages measured in the brain activity of individuals in the nature walk group as opposed to those walking on a sidewalk next to a busy street.

How in the world do they measure that?!
Scientists are also conducting research by measuring the brain activity of subjects while in nature. Here’s the crazy way they do it!

The People/Nature Connection
So, is it about Biophilia? Or perhaps our learned ancestral connections over 1000’s of years? Or maybe something else entirely?
I’ve gone through a sizeable amount of research trying to uncover WHY nature benefits people so much when they’re exposed to it. While it’s been consistently proven for many years that nature has a tight cause-and-effect relationship with benefits to mental and physical health, the reasons behind it are mostly opinion.
So, for now, it seems IT IS WHAT IT IS! The relationship between nature and people exists and it does us all good to participate in it.
So, for a break today, I’m going for a walk in my favorite green space! Parks are available everywhere and apparently for good reason!
Kindest regards, Becky Claffy 🙂

The amenities are top notch! The fishing pier was a big hit for my hubby! I will say that the $1k deposit was a huge turn off and almost a deal breaker for us, we’ve never been asked for such a huge deposit, hence the 4 stars.
We stayed at Fisherman’s Cove RV Resort for about a week, and while there are some definite positives… it’s a bit of a mixed bag depending on what you’re looking for.
The location is solid, especially if you want to be close to Sarasota without being right in the middle of everything. The pool deck was a highlight… well done, relaxing, and clearly one of the better features of the campground.
That said, the campground has a very quiet, sleepy feel and seems to cater more toward an older crowd. During our entire stay, we didn’t see a single kid. For some people, that’s exactly what they want… but for others, it’s worth knowing upfront.
Amenities were fairly limited and there really weren’t any organized activities. There were a couple of food trucks, which was nice to see… but communication around when they’d be there was minimal, so it felt a bit random.
One area that could use improvement is staff interaction. We didn’t see many employees around and the few we did encounter weren’t particularly friendly. I even tried saying hello to the groundskeeper a couple of times and didn’t get much of a response… which stood out.
Overall, Fisherman’s Cove is a decent option if you’re looking for a quiet, low-key stay with a nice pool and good location. Just know going in that it’s more subdued, with limited amenities and very little activity. For the right traveler, it may be perfect… but it’s definitely preference-based.
