Spring break is a much-anticipated time for college students and families alike. Warm weather and beautiful beaches makes the Gulf Coast a popular destination for spring breakers. With red tide looming, many question whether to keep their reservations when the beach may not be an option. Here are our best non-beach options for spring break and beyond.
Museums
The Gulf Coast of Florida has dozens of museums with exhibits and activities. For example, the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg features a collection of over 2,000 works of art by the renowned surrealist painter. Similarly, the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota offers visitors the chance to explore a range of art collections and exhibitions, as well as a beautiful rose garden. If ocean life is what you were here for, Mote Marine Aquarium or the Clearwater Aquarium will prove to be time well spent, and they are all within an hour’s drive of our resort.
Shopping
Shopping can be a fun way to spend your time indoors, and the Gulf Coast of Florida is home to several renowned shopping destinations. You’ll find no shortage of fashion, eateries, and fun, from pocket-savvy outlet malls in Ellenton to the infamous St. Armand’s square in Sarasota.
Spa Treatment
If you want to relax and unwind, visiting a spa can be a great way to spend your time. Florida has a few unique options you won’t find elsewhere, such as The Center in St. Pete Beach, where you can find a myriad of yoga classes and instructors who teach on and off the beach. And although it’s not traditional to consider acupuncture a spa treatment, you can pop into the St. Pete Community Acupuncture Clinic for a quick “tune-up” at a suggested donation price you can afford. No paperwork or ongoing appointments are necessary. Afterward, you can grab a coffee or a vegan meal or stroll down the colorful main street where it’s located.
Local Cuisine
The delicious local cuisine is one of the best things about visiting the Gulf Coast of Florida. From fresh seafood to regional specialties, plenty of restaurants and cafes exist. And if the food comes second to the ambiance, we highly suggest Spinners, the Rumfish Grille, and Circles be added to your list.
Shows and Concerts
Not only is the Gulf Coast home to several theaters and music venues, but we are also home to theme parks, waterfront tiki bars, and an annual favorite – the Strawberry Festival! You’d be surprised how many bands and berries you didn’t know you were missing in your life until you knew this.
And if you are hoping to spend some time still outside while steering clear of potential beach bummers or crowded indoor venues, rest assured you can find all the fun you need at Fisherman’s Cove RV Resort. With weekly activities such as Zumba and games, a beautifully renovated pool and hot tub area on the water, and many seasonal activities such as paint classes, food trucks, music, and holiday gatherings, you will indeed find plenty to do with your time. And not only is our water clear, but the artificial reefs we installed are gaining some new fans, so we are happy to give them a new place to call home.
We hope to see you this spring break and beyond!
